:: Jamaican History Synopsis ::
We were stolen from Africa, brought to Jamaica & by the sweat of our brows we built the nation. We were an enslaved and oppressed people. The captives tried to take away our identity and our rich culture, tried to stiffle our self-expression. Several partners joined our struggle for nationhood, from India, China, Lebanon and Syria. Out of many, [we are] one people. The struggle lasted for just over 300 years. But we persevered. We struggled. We fought. We live. We remember. Now, on the 6th day of August 2012, we will celebrate 50 years of Jamaica’s Independence. Celebrate with us! #JamaicanPride
